Articulating your goals can be empowering. It gives a tangibility, a clear public commitment and level of accountability in doing everything you can to achieve them, if approached with the right mindset.
Now for some, I understand, this can sound a challenge. Declaring what you intend to do to the world can be alarming.
However, if you recognise that your objectives are a North Star that directs your actions, and you focus on progress with consistent effort to achieve it, the outcome should not impact on your self-worth or define you as a person.
People aren't paying attention
Most other people, well the ones actually interested or paying attention (which typically is a lot less than we think), will be willing you on and impressed by your desire and commitment, rather than caring if you hit your goals.
I have goals to inspire me, and also to help me to become the person I want to be, and build the life I want to have, in pursuit of my goals. Do not compare yourself to others. Consistently compare yourself today, to yourself of yesterday, and look at the progress you have made.
The Gap and The Gain
Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan, talk about this in their fantastic book The Gap and The Gain.
Strive for your goals, want them implicitly, but don’t NEED then to be happy.
If you choose to start from a position of happiness and gratitude, you will be best placed to tackle your goals. Looking back daily on the gains you are making, not dwelling on the gap to your goal is liberating and allows for sense of peace and calm which is much more sustainable as you aim to keep the momentum in your pursuit of your goals.
So with that I share my goals for 2022. I will not go into all the underlying metrics behind them however at a top level by 31st December 2022 I want to have:
- Built a community focused on the empowerment of themselves and others through exercise, creativity and technology
- Share the stories and values of The Cheetah Cub Running Club with children around the world
- Written and published three more children’s books
- Run a marathon in two hours, fifty nine minutes or less
- Research and develop new methods of incentivising exercise and community engagement through web3/blockchain and NFTs
I am fortunate to have the opportunity to commit to my goals full time, will be going all out to achieve them, and am excited to engage and learn from so many of you who have common interests in the coming weeks and months.
I hope you have defined some ‘North Star’ goals for yourself and commit to consistently looking back on progress to help you move forward in confidence and conviction.
